So you want to start playing with clay! This beginners course is the perfect opportunity to get a taste of ceramics, from pinching your first mug to glazing a thrown vessel.

Come on Monday or Wednesday evenings and start learning everything you need to know about clay with one of our expert teachers.

Wether you are a complete beginner or have some experience, we will be covering different making techniques in each session. Over the course you will create several pieces that you’ll be able to take home with you. These sessions are for up to 12 people.

Course breakdown:

In the first 2 sessions you will learn some hand-building techniques, and on session 3 and 4 you will be introduced to throwing and trimming.

From session 5 onwards, we’ll focus more on how to decorate your pieces using slips, as well as glazing. You will also get some time to practise the skills you’ve learned with your own projects and ideas.

Session 1 - learn how to wedge clay like a pro + pinching and coiling techniques

Session 2 - learn the slab building technique

Session 3 - learn the basics of throwing on a potter’s wheel

Session 4 - learn to trim your thrown pots

Session 5 - surface decoration and glazing

Session 6 - practise your skills!

This course allows each student to keep 8 items. If you want to keep more, there will be a charge of £8 per extra item. This is to cover clay, firings and us glazing your pieces for you. We encourage students to be critical and only keep what they know they will use, if you keep practising you’ll make better pieces! We ‘re also trying to be as environmentally friendly as possible and clay can only be recycled before its been fired.

If you book and are unable to attend, please give us 1 months notice and we will refund you. After this period, we’ll be unable to refund the course under allcircumstances. If you are unable to attend a session you will not be able to reschedule for another occasion. Please do not ask our staff to do this for you.
